As a narrative designer I define creative vision, develop strong core game loops, build worlds, design quests, establish narrative systems, and seamlessly integrate my work across disciplines with teams all over the globe.
I’m currently a Game Designer at Dire Wolf Digital working on RPGs. I have seven years of professional game industry experience on video games and tabletop roleplaying games. I wrote a bestselling official D&D 5E adventure, edited a 2022 Ennie Award-winning indie D&D adventure, and led narrative design on an unnanounced live-service MMOARPG game. Design Disciplines
Worldbuilding
Create new worlds and enrich existing ones. I build worlds rich with cohesive history, exciting lore, intriguing backgrounds, colorful characters, and complex world issues that drive the story forward so there’s always something interesting to reward players who seek a richer game experience.
Story Design
Design interesting stories. I craft and ideate on the story’s plotlines, characters, settings, and choices. Story Design is focused on what the story is, which distinguishes it from Narrative Design’s focus on how to tell the story. My story design work often involves writing and editing.
Narrative Design
Drive how the story gets told. I determine the overall narrative approach: tone, themes, central conflicts, writing style, pacing of events and reveals. I collaborate with gameplay, art, animation, audio, and programming devs so every part of the game works together to tell a unified story.
Art, Sound, & Actor Direction
Show & tell the story across multiple creative teams. I write guidelines, prompts, and provide refining feedback across multiple disciplines to help the whole team execute on the story’s vision.
Narrative Systems
Identify which methods tell the story best. My narrative systems work covers dialogue systems, quest systems, gameplay integration, cross-team integration, and working with procedural systems and branching dialogue.
Game Design
Mechanics and gameplay. I write Game Design Documents, create and improve mechanical systems (like TTRPG rules systems), and lead projects every step of the way from conception through publication.
